Abstract

Background: Stress urinary incontinence is the most common type of urinary incontinence which is not a life threatens but seriously affects the women quality of life. Aim of the study: Was to investigate the effect of an educational program on quality of life in multiparous women with stress urinary incontinence. Design: A quasi–experimental design (pre/post-test one group) was used. Setting: The study was conducted in Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic at Benha University Hospital. Sample: A purposive sample which included 48 multiparous women with stress urinary incontinence. Tools of data collection: Three tools were utilized; Tool I: A structured interviewing questionnaire. Tool II: Multiparous women’s reported self-care practices regarding stress urinary incontinence. Tool III: Stress urinary incontinence quality of life questionnaire. Results: There was a highly statistically significance improvement regarding all items of knowledge and reported self-care practices of studied multiparous women (P≤0.001). Also, a significant increase in the mean scores of domains of quality of life avoidance/limiting behavior, psychosocial impact and social embarrassment after one month of the educational program implementation than pre educational program implementation (P≤0.001). Conclusion: The educational program has a positive effect on improved knowledge, reported self-care practices and quality of life of multiparous women with stress urinary incontinence. Recommendation: Highlight the importance of adopting healthy practices especially pelvic floor muscle exercise to improve women’s quality of life.
