Men's Perception regarding the Ministry of Health Initiatives Plan for Early Detection of Prostate Cancer.

Abstract

Background: The men's health initiative is designed to screen for prostate cancer at an early stage, conduct clinical examinations and provide free treatment to prevent its progression to life-threatening stages. Aim this of study: Was to assess men's perception regarding the Ministry of Health Initiatives plan for early detection of prostate cancer. Design:  A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted at 25% of Faculties of Benha University. Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Low, Faculty of Physiotherapy and Faculty of Education. Sample: Simple random sample that included 147 employees. Tools: I: A structured interviewing questionnaire was used to assess: Men's socio - demographic characteristics, past medical history, knowledge about prostatic cancer and the ministry of health initiatives and barriers that hinder men to attend the ministry of health  initiatives. II: Likert scale to assess attitude of the studied men regarding the Ministry of Health Initiatives Plan for Early Detection of Prostate Cancer. Results: 43.5% of the of studied men had good total knowledge level, 32% of them had positive total attitude level about initiative plan and 46.3% of them had no barriers level that hindering them from attending initiatives. Conclusions: There was positive correlation between total knowledge, total attitudes and total barriers among studied men. Recommendations: Health educational programs should be developed and implemented for men to educate them with the most current information regarding prostate cancer initiative.
